Does Consciousness Evolve?, p. 4 The materialization of the sphere of mind marked a definitive disconnection of man from the universe and his enclosure in the blind alleys of matter out of which he must attempt to free himself by self-aggrandizement, by force and control and this is why the materialization of mind is historically a cosmic moment that ominously presages the terminal phase of this cycle of humanity on earth. Detached henceforth from any direct link to consciousness and to existence, the mechanization of life and the worship of the collective man become the supreme value and model of human "culture." In his condition of divorce from the cosmos and in order to escape the medieval Judeo-Christian God, the wholly materialized man of the nineteenth century projected his opposite: a void, a pure nothingness as the basis of reality, and then a doctrine of origins which started from this nothing, as if something were a possibility of nothing. Out of a blind and endless night of emptiness he constructed himself and all things with rationalist contortions, imaginative dissemblance and implausible simulations. His science starts from a nihilistic premise; he fell into a blind and groping empiricism that on principle denies the evidence that existence, consciousness and life could have no origin, and no causes, no beginning and no end. Causality is only a secondary mechanism in the universe since the primary elements in the universe, namely consciousness, existence and life cannot be explained by anything less than or other than themselves since they are caused by nothing other than themselves. The authoritarian character structure is founded precisely in the suppression of sentience and therefore of radical feeling or direct yogic participation in existence. For this character structure a precarious, twilight, semi-consciousness governed by laws, rules and moral regulations, all of which go in the name of civilization and decency has taken the place of a profound and intimate awareness of life and a vast intelligence in which existence is perfectly integrated. Therefore it is not surprising that the authoritarian character structure becomes perfectly capable of casual killing of millions of human and non-human beings on an immense and hardly imaginable scale, which becomes "normal" and justified so long as its own rules of engagement are apparently adhered to. This is the character type that in the name of the good and of its Gods has committed incalculable and unequaled crimes against humanity. The modern soldier, an unconscious killing machine, is simply "doing his job" once he is ordered to do so, rightly or wrongly, by his commander in chief. The parasite politician and his corporate controllers do not hesitate in initiating, covertly or openly, the brutalization or dispossession of masses of people anywhere in the world if it will support shareholder values. The suppression of sensuality or of pure sentience has banished life from the universe in the dwarfed awareness of the rigid, authoritarian character and replaced it with chemistry and mechanics. The suppression of sensuality has given rise to a science that has put the universe to death by reducing it to the random association of particles, impersonal forces and probabilistic fluctuations of a " space vacuum." The suppression of sensuality is the suppression of life and the reign of the machine and of humanoids. A culture of death feeds on authoritarian moralism and behind this mask stretches the cold hand of control, emasculation and domination.[7] Consciousness truly realized dissolves at last the authoritarian character structure and allows man to live his life directly, in freedom and with full self-responsibility. In it alone existence is revealed as it is beyond all conditioning, beyond all the doctrines and dogmas of terrorized humanity and its Gods. Consciousness answers to no authority except itself since its very nature is the direct identification of reality. The man of naked awareness and free-energy appears to be amoral and to be the opposite of every extremity. From the point of view of the "good" he appears "evil," and from the point of view of 'evil' he appears "good." Consciousness
is the integrator of existence since it alone is self-organizing and
self-referring. Therefore it is its heart, the source of its life, its
only savior. This is the key to the universe. The universe must and
can only arise in a field of intelligence. There is no such thing as
"pure matter" existing anywhere independently of intelligence.
All matter has a specific qualitative nature, some form of differentiation
and therefore matter itself is a distinctive precipitation of an intelligent
field. It follows that all matter ultimately must derive from life.
This does not mean that a table is capable of getting up and walking
away, but it does mean that the existence of material substances on
whatever scale ultimately results from what is or was at some time alive.[8] |
